Milan is a fashion and business city first, but it has a serious advantage for skiers: the Alps curve right around the top of Lombardy, and several excellent resorts are close enough for a weekend on the snow. Fly in for work and stay for the slopes, or treat Milan as a springboard for a full ski week — either works.
Lombardy: Livigno, Bormio and Aprica
To the northeast, the Valtellina valley holds a cluster of resorts. Livigno, high and snow-sure, is also a duty-free zone, which makes the gear and the après notably cheaper; Bormio has long, classic descents and thermal spas to soak in afterwards; Aprica is smaller and good for families. All are roughly three to four hours from the city.

Aosta Valley: Cervinia and Courmayeur
To the northwest, the Aosta Valley offers some of Italy's most famous skiing. Cervinia sits beneath the Matterhorn and links over the border with Zermatt, with glacier runs that keep going into summer; Courmayeur, under Mont Blanc, pairs good skiing with one of the prettiest mountain towns in the Alps. Both are around two to three hours from Milan.
Getting there
Milan has two main airports — Malpensa (MXP) to the northwest and Linate (LIN) close to the city — plus Bergamo nearby. The resorts are scattered across two mountain valleys, and the final approaches climb steeply. A private transfer with space for ski gear takes you straight from the terminal to the lifts, no hire car or rail changes required.
